That is a steel piston...some engines were equipped with them. All the steel pistons were of 3 ring configuration. And your block has steel sleeves too.

Place the small end of that teardrop shaped piece over the arm of the wiper at bottom of the spring. place the hook at top of arm through the hole in wiper motor shaft.

I have a dipstick with part number stamped into it; 48E 6750....it measures 13 7/8' from bottom of stick to flange.

Kube, dunno, but possibly the confusion about 4/5 quarts is that 1 imperial gallon [which I use in New Zealand] equals 1.2 US Gallons....I always put 4 Imperial quarts in the sump of any flathead.

Actually jr, part way through the 36 production year, Ford did indeed redesign the adjuster/ wedge mechanism and it very closely resembles the 37 style. This is all covered in a certain service...

My 39 Deluxe stainless measures as follows....from centre outward, 17 9/16", 17 3/4", 17 15/16", 18", 18 3/16", 18 5/16', 18 5/8", 18 7/8", 19", 9 1/2", 4". The outermost strips measure 22 1/8"
