The more I think about it, I bet the steering box isn't frozen, the column lock is just doing its job. Anyone make keys?

Yes , there is a member here that does an excellent job with keys . Someone will have his name . I can’t remember it. Great job on your recovery. I personally love the 41s and have 3 currently. I’ve got some nos doors and front fenders . Just as spares but hopefully I’ll never need them.

32Phil can make a key for you, he made my ‘41 from the numbers on the passenger door lock.

Doesn’t look like I’m gonna be able to vice grip garage this one, I can get the crank to turn a few degrees and three of the pistons on that side move up and down. The one with all the water damage does not move at all so it has a broken crank or a bent rod.

I got the oil pan off of the flathead, and it’s amazing that every bolt came out easy, caked in dirt and grime. Nothing broke off or has been stuck. The reason it was parked is they ran it out of oil. You can move the crankshaft and the rods up and down About a 16th of an inch so I’m going to pull it out this week and see what the true damage is.

It looks like nothin' went through the block; thank heaven for small favors. The rods that we can see look like they got pretty hot, though.

Pulled the engine today and got the stuck piston out, the rod bearing came out in multiple pieces but the journal nor the rod are scored. The engine spins now without any stuck valves but the bores are rough. This has a 3 ring dome piston, were these stock?
I’ll finish teardown this weekend and mic everything to see what the damage is.

I think the original pistons had 4 rings each. Did you find any stamped numbers on the piston tops to indicate oversize pistons?

Looks like you have a nice shop where you can work on your car. Will be watching as you make progress.

That is a steel piston...some engines were equipped with them. All the steel pistons were of 3 ring configuration. And your block has steel sleeves too.

Looks like the block has the so-called raised deck. If I recall, that might indicate the block could be the original for the car.

I assume it is the original engine but no way of proving it. Its the right generation.
