Re: Ted's Brake Floater Kit review

Ford's 37-38 cable operated brakes are technically full floating already. My experience is all the parts on the backing plate need to be in good condition with no observable wear, and the brakes must...

Re: SOLD notices ???? Don't see any/many

The problem with parts stashes is we all have them. I see good parts for sale at very reasonable prices, but have most of the same stuff myself already. At this point I am very picky about what I...

Re: Guerrini

I have never had to add anything to a thermostat or use a second hose clamp on any 37-48 style V8 engine. I have used the hoses with the molded flare where they go over the head. I just set the...

Re: 39 deluxe sealed beams

I have used halogen bulbs that fit the original reflector with no modification. Little British Car Co (http://www.lbcarco.com/) has bulbs with the filaments in the correct location. They offer the...

Re: 21 stud insert main conversion in LA area?

I am not familiar with any inter main conversion for the Babbitt main flathead V8 blocks.
The 36 LB motor is a water pump in head engine produced by Ford in partial production for the 1936 model...

Re: Relay 6V

deuce_roadster has it, that is a generator regulator. It will almost certainly be a 6V positive ground unit since it lists Zephyr along with Ford and Mercury. The Zephyr was long gone in the USA by...

Re: lower H2O pump hoses...

That probably depends on how much offset you need. I did a quick search on that auction site and found some listings for 1-3/4" ID offset silicone hose. I would measure what you need and see if there...

Re: Distributor "guts" swap possible?

Yes and no.

The "late" 36 distributor, the "snuff can coil" unit, will swap all internal parts up through the 1941 "11A" distributor. The 11A advance is a nice upgrade, all other parts are the...

Re: Lincoln V8? We discuss them here?

big job, I'm entertained by your idea. Could you use two cheap aluminum downflow radiators, with each one hooked up to one side of the big 337? Something like generic hot rod Model A radiators?

Re: Test Results - Crab Dist on my Allen Synchrograph

I'm curious what you found. I go through the front mount Ford distributors with good results, but have never had one on a distributor machine. I'd be curious to see the difference between a machine...

Re: What did you do today that was flathead V8 related?

All 1937 and many 1938 Ford 85 hp engines were this style 21 stud motor, nothing odd about them. Swapping in a 37-38 style 21 stud motor into a 32-36 Ford has been common since Ford first made the...

Re: T-5 behind an H-six?

I would do some homework on the one piece driveshaft idea. The longer a driveshaft is the bigger diameter it has to be (read expensive), and still there is a maximum recommended length. This is to...

Re: what's wrong with a standard fuel pump?

I use kits from Then and Now Automotive for my fuel pumps, and have had good results.

Re: Lincoln V8? We discuss them here?

The 337 engines are not popular the way the regular Ford flatheads are popular. There is little information and little support for them. The few people who have used one and reported on it say good...

Re: parts interchange

Do you have a 1936 rear axle or a 1940 rear axle?
Also, are you sure you want another 4.11 ratio rear axle? You will probably prefer 3.78 ratio gears unless you live in very hilly or mountainous...

Re: lower H2O pump hoses...

I prefer silicone hoses for the radiator to water pump hoses. The silicone hoses are flexible so installing them is not the fight that you have with original type. Silicone hoses are also durable,...

Re: Serpentine System for Flatheads

I don't think all that is needed. My friend has a 41 Mercury with air conditioning and an alternator running one wide V belt. It does the job well without added complication of idlers or extra belts....

Re: Puttin in my 36 pickup

That will put a smile on your face. Many people don't understand the greatness that is the well tuned stock flathead V8, they make driving a real pleasure.

Re: Camshaft: New vs Regrind

I would rather have an 8CM cam with no wear than a 1007b cam.

Re: what's wrong with a standard fuel pump?

Letting a car sit is much harder on it than occasional driving.
I don't run electric pumps on any of my cars. I expect to crank on the starter for a while if I let a car sit for too long. I don't...

Re: 42 Mercury Sedan Idles Then Dies Video

The carburetor in the video looks like one of the new cheap chinesium carburetors. I am curious if any parts are interchangeable with the original carburetors, and if the tolerances on the new cheap...

Re: T-5 behind an H-six?

You should be good to go with the bell housing already, assuming you used the later H series parts not the earlier G series parts.

The two big differences in swapping in a T5 to the tonner...

Re: 47coe

I'm not 100% sure what your question is, so my response is a bit generalized.
The original 6V system is positive ground. It matters for your generator & regulator, and for ignition system efficiency...

Re: 1946 Ford Fordor project

Those are installed to allow for an aftermarket vacuum accessory, typically a South Wind gasoline heater.
