I have a hand pump, but I’m starting to suspect it may be a bit small. Took a few hundred pumps to fill the gearbox last time. Was like filling it up a spoonful at a time.

It’s not the removal, gravity takes care of that. Getting oil back in is the challenge. What are you guys using to get thick oil back in?

Once you remove the stainless screw from the top of the park light housing the stainless cover will slide back and come away. This will reveal the back of the globe holder.

The globe holder twists...

Huey, I can confirm that the oil gauge will come out without having to remove the whole cluster which is a much bigger job. Once the electrical connections to the gauge are removed, the gauge is held...

I rebuilt the guage cluster in my 41, and for confidence I wound up using mechanical guages.

Sounds like the starter you replaced was either 'Happy Lucky Rooster Brand' or 'Dancing Peacock Brand'.

Worth checking that the brush springs are not binding also.

Are you converting to 12V?

if so you can use the wires, but they won't hookup the same if you are changing to -ve earth.

Mr Tardel has published a series of small repair manual that I have found immensely useful.


I think there are 11 or 12 in the set. Saved me a lot of hassle.

I had the same problem on my 41. I went with door mounted mirrors after removing the cowl mounted mirrors. I found a seller on eBay that was able to fabricate the cowl trims for the 41.

Just curious. When you buy a new car and they offer to ceramic coat the paint (for a large amount of money), is this what they use?
