Re: How to install a synchronized transmission in a Ford Model A

I have a Mitchell Synchro Transmission and love it. Thanks Paul for the video and the video of Steve Mitchell seminar at NCRG.

Re: How to install a synchronized transmission in a Ford Model A

I'm on the fence about touching the clutch (or brake) parts. I don't think the body oils on your hands will hurt but greasy hands is a different story.

Re: Original or repop?

Yes, it is my understanding when they did away with the key, they made the hole and pin larger, weakening the arm. But it took a bunch of years to show up. Seems they all crack right thru the pin...

Re: Original or repop?

Been thru that one. Mine broke a couple of years ago on the way home. If I had to stop a a light, I would shut off the engine. Then when the light turned green, I would put in 2nd and hit the...

Re: Emergency Brakes: Handle returns to "un-brake position"

Hard for me to see in the pictures, but it looks like someone just pulled the lever back too far. Pull it back an see if you cap "flip" the pawl back onto the teeth. I'm not that familiar with the...

Re: Emergency Brakes: Handle returns to "un-brake position"

Sounds like the actuating rod fell off during transportation. Do you see anything dangling underneath?

Re: Ryan Overdrive Operation

NOT TRUE! The Ryan has dogged gears similar to a constant mesh motorcycle transmission. Shifting has nothing to do either with the teeth.

Re: Ryan Overdrive Operation

I think once you drive your car you will know when to shift. I don't watch the speed. With my Mitchell I don't use O/D in first. After I get up to speed in 2nd, I will shift to O/D 2nd and usually...

Re: cheap deal in Cali.........

True, and I found it odd that a National Model A Club was "promoting" the idea by having an article about converting your Model A to electric. Seemed out of place for a magazine called the Restorer....

Re: Adding turn signals to my A. I need help!

This is a good example of why it is always a good idea to join and support local Model A Clubs. Good going Harbor Area MARC.

Re: What Do You Think Of This Model A?

Looks like the correct one. If so, first thing I noticed is it is listed as a 1931 but has a 1930 grill shell.

Re: a-6705 oil filter kit

Do NOT modify the oil filter, even tho a popular Youtube "Enfluencer" suggests to do so in one of his videos. The Model A oil pump is more than capable of suppling enough oil thru a filter.

What's the hole in the passenger side for? Perhaps checking trans oil?
