Re: Rare Wide Five Rim - 15 x 6?

No way Seth. 60hp wide 5 wheels are 3-1/2" wide where the tire locates on the rim. I have a bunch of those that came off 60hp, 37 Fords.

Re: Torque Tube Seal

@Brendan17....In my humble opinion, you need to find out why that ring groove on the drive shaft is not accessible for properly mounting that ring. If you are using all stock/original parts on this...

Re: Rare Wide Five Rim - 15 x 6?

I had one like that years ago and sold it for good bucks, since I had no use for it then, and still wouldn't today. Now if it had been a 16"x 6" wide, 5 on 5-1/2 wire spoke, straight or bent spokes,...

Re: Are these Ford doors?

Steve, if the glass is original FoMoCo there should be "bugs" as already mentioned in two posts. From what I can see in your pics, they look to be in good condition with the front doors probably...

Re: Washers, yay or nay, on stock head studs

Yes, it's generally called a cost reduction/cost savings. Just like the change from studs and nuts to hex headed bolts. It's a constant thing required in engineering to keep the cost of manufacturing...

Re: v8 transmission breakdown

There are a few tricks for getting some of the later gear combinations together or apart when the early 48 case is used. I'm not sure if Mac mentions any of this in his book, but there are some posts...

Re: Washers, yay or nay, on stock head studs

Unfortunately, when our dear old Henry passed away, his design and manufacturing engineers (and probably his bean counters) began to play.

Re: Washers, yay or nay, on stock head studs

....and that's only 100% accurate "IF" your only concern and/or purpose in life is attempting to build a high point, over restored, show vehicle as it may have left the various factories building...

Re: v8 transmission breakdown

BINGO!! That's "the key that has to turn" to get that input shaft out and I'm sure that is mentioned in MacVP's transmission book.

Re: Australian Early Ford V8 Nationals 3-6 May 2024

I'd love to come to Australia for that National Meet! I was there many years ago while aboard one of Uncle Sams US Navy Destroyers on an R&R cruise before returning to the states.

Re: Washers, yay or nay, on stock head studs

I use the hardened steel washers on my '35-'36, 21 stud engines when using iron heads because these engines I have originally came from the factory with aluminum heads and hardened washers under the...

Re: Mechanical Brakes - Cross Shaft Replacement

Joey, it's a good thing that you found that bushing problem with the cross shaft and replaced it with one in better condition. If you ever hope to get that mechanical braking system adjusted and...

Re: 36 Mechanical break upgrade

That's the same type of floaters/equalizers that I have on my '35 fordor slantback sedan (FB Avatar) and they also work fine for me.

Re: 32 Transmission Refresh

That's the reverse idler gear :). 38 coupe was referring to the 1st/reverse sliding gear that meshes with the cluster gear.

The reverse idler gear only sees action on one side, as the 1st/reverse...

With all due respect to those who have already commented, It's difficult for me to see what those gear teeth actually look like, even with the resized pictures, due to the oil film, discoloration,...

Yes indeed, and hopefully the OP, mmumley, came back to read these responses made on his post, and understands what is necessary to correctly install the drive train in his '36.

Re: Optima battery holdown?

I can't remember if I put a curve on those hold down pieces or not. I could check later today, after I get done doing my wifes "honey do" list :D , but if I didn't do that, it does sound like a good...
