Re: '41, An Enigma!

All external parts from a 41 engine can be bolted onto a 59 series engine. You will probably need to clearance the pre-war heads above the valves, there were fixtures made for doing this and someone...

Re: Water pumps

If your tractor conversion uses regular car or truck type pumps then buy the new ones.

Re: Value

I am on the appreciative end of the drop in prices. Now thanks to being in that prime age bracket and prices have dropped I can afford to buy a 38 Phaeton and a 38 Ford coupe. 10 years ago I couldn't...

Re: 8BA cylinder wall issue?

In the pictures it appears to have a pit at the bottom of that fan shape, and a gouge at the top. Pictures can be misleading, what are we actually seeing?
If the only work the engine needs from a...

Re: 1951 Fordomatic

I have been told, but never done it myself, that a later Fordomatic pan from 53-54-??? can be swapped onto a 51 or 52 Ford to get the dip stick tube that comes up in the engine compartment.

Re: Spring removal and Columbia installation

Glad to hear progress is being made. I have gotten to drive three Columbia equipped vehicles after helping repair them and there is no substitute. I will have a Columbia in my 38 Ford coupe one of...

Re: ignition coil

The 32-48 Fords have a ballast resistor on the firewall behind the dash, add the resistance of that to the coil to find your total resistance, then apply Ohm's law.

Re: What Transmission is this?

That is the earlier version of the crash-box four speed (no synchros) without the removable clutch housing, frequently called a "hogs head" by the hot rod community. It may be designated a T-8...

Re: Oil Pan fitment

I think any 32-48 oil pan would fit, but I could be wrong.
Any evidence of the oil pan being "massaged" with a hammer to clear the front main bearing cap? I'm curious what you find.

Re: Yp grating the flathead

Overdrive is a beautiful thing.
Please also be aware that Texas has 80 and 85 mph speed limits on highways at various places in the state. I wasn't breaking the law.

Re: Yp grating the flathead

I have to disagree with Ol' Ron. I drove my 53 sedan from Texas to Indiana last summer to attend the Early Ford V8 Club Central National Meet, about 1,000 miles one way. I did not get the furthest...

Re: Oil Pan fitment

I am surprised to hear of a poured main engine oil pan on an insert main engine. The front main bearing cap got wider when Ford switched from poured Babbitt main bearings to insert main bearings. The...

Re: Heater hose adapter 41 v8.

I have not needed sealer when using one of these on an original type lower radiator hose. I did have to use sealer when installing one in a silicone lower radiator hose (used silicone on a 38 because...

Re: '41 distributor cap

Sometimes the outer caps stick in the distributor housing. If that happens take the coil off the top and gently tap the caps out using a wooden dowel, a screwdriver handle, or similar. Frequently the...

Re: The last year roadster

The Australian roadster was what we in the USA would call a "Club Roadster", it had a back seat. It still meets the definition of "Roadster" in that it has side curtains instead of windows.

I follow the antique car trip version of Murphy's law: if I have it with me I won't need it. I carry a spare carburetor, fuel pump, water pump, generator, regulator, points, condenser, cap, rotor,...

Re: The last year roadster

Contrary to what the Southern California Roadster community wants to believe, 1936 was not the last year for the roadster built by Ford in the USA. The 1937 Ford offerings included a roadster, side...

Re: Removing Stuck Heads

I don't have any ideas for head removal without risking breaking the heads. However, I have a question, are those floating rod bearings 1.999" or are they 2.139"? It is unusual to have floating rod...

Re: Flathead 8ba pcs valve

If you are adding a PCV to a flathead make sure you are pulling from the correct port. I have seen some PCV installations on a flathead that resulted in pulling dusty outside air into the oil pan...

Re: 3D Printed Ford Battery Case Help

I have cut the feet off of two Optima batteries to make them fit in a much more generic case. The first optima lasted for 10 years. I'm 4 years into the second optima now.
If you get this worked out...
