It's got a weber on it. That's worth 500$. I don't think you will get a better buy and if you don't take it, I WANT IT!

You really never get something for nothing. The notion you can is wishful thinking at best. I have a engine from Antique Engine Rebuilderrs in Skokie, IL. It is inserted with other options. It is a very good engine. But most important, Rich Fallucia stands with his work. Spend the money and save yourself a lot of trouble

If the freight wasn't so expensive to get it here, I'd have it on it's way already!

New here do not know a lot about model A's but have spent a lot of time with flathead 6's mostly mopar. So my 2 cents if I had the 6k I would definitely get the new rebuild with all the bells and whistles, if not and needing a engine I would at least look at it. If its complete should be able to hook up a battery pull the plugs and do a compression test that would give some idea as to engines condition

Call Rich at Antique Engine Rebuilding. I have one of his touring
Engines in my sport coupe. What a machine. I can't wait to get one for my slant window. It's the best money I have ever spent on an old car! |

I guess my point was that when the engine is "shot" it is time to pull it down and rebuild it and not keep running it till it blows up. If everybody did that there would be no more to buy for replacement, and it is cheaper too.

Does the number on the engine you "blew" match the frame and title??? --this would be a consideration in what you do
Have you dropped the pan for a look?? a babbitt engine can have a total failure of the babbitt on a rod and not damage the crank, and it is possible to replace a rod without even taking off the head. |

Theo If,as you say,you are looking for an engine to get you around town, then you sure dont need a $6,ooo rebuilt to do that! I would jump on that engine thats near you as the added parts are almost worth the asking price. If you snooze-you lose! If you go for another engine dont turn one down because its a babbit engine.Ive driven A,s well over 100,000 miles & only had one rod brg failure & was able to drive it 30 miles to get home. You would not do that with inserts without ruining the crank.

Your in NJ so i would suggest,
ENGINE RESTORATION 1. www.schwalms.com Schwalm's/Ora Landis (Babbitted Bearings)(Pennsylvania) Is the block cracked or the casting damaged in some way? You can get the "blown" engine rebuilt and maybe save on a core charge. No matter what you do you need to put to paper exactly what you want your engine to do so you get exactly what you want. You insist on insert bearings but you will want to keep a record of what bearings were used in your specific engine so when the time comes you can get he exact same one and no machining will be necessary as there is a long list of bearings that will work.

You are in a good geographical area, with Schwalms and Dreamwork available, Antique Engine is another option, I have a Schwalms engine in the sedan and Scotty's tudor has an Antique Engine in it, we feel both are great choices, I don't have personal experience or knowledge of Dreamwork but they are regulars here on the forum so would probably stand behind anything they do for you.
Good luck with you hunt and let us know what you chose and how you like it. |
