Just blew my Engine. Looking for the best advice on a replacement Hey guys,
Well the original engine that was in my car was always weak (it leaked lots of oil out of the back of the engine (worn babbits) the crankshaft had a ton of play, and it really had no power. Took her out for a drive today and it finally blew up. Im looking for advice on where to get a new engine from, and what kind of configuration to get. I know I want INSERTED bearings. I live in an area with LOTS of hills, and im looking for a little bit more power out of the stock engine. Possibly looking into a dual carb setup as well. Just wondering if anyone can give me any ideas on what I should need. I plan on keeping the stock trans, not putting overdrive in. I already have a new water pump, generator, starter etc.. Thanks guys! |

Re: Just blew my Engine. Looking for the best advice on a replacement 3 Attachment(s)
this is out of my nieghbors '29 it has a valve tap nothing major. i pulled it out and its in my garage. i installed a flathead in his car like mine in my '31 coupe. anyway it has a weber 2 barrel down draft with alum. intake, a f&s cintrifical electronic ignition, leakless water pump, doesn't use oil. starts and runs good. just has a ticking. what model a doesn't. he wanted a v8, so its in my garage for sale. if interested in it, i know he's going to ask $1,200.00 or best offer. it has $900.00 just in the above parts. Re: Just blew my Engine. Looking for the best advice on a replacement I would suggest doing it right, and just getting a rebuilt engine. Rich at antique engine rebuilding in skokie Illinois builds a fantastic inserted engine. Give him a call, and he is even pretty fairly priced.

Re: Just blew my Engine. Looking for the best advice on a replacement I would go with a counterweighted crankshaft if you are going to have an engine or short block built. Also the Snyder's 5.5 head should give you the extra horsepower you want.

Re: Just blew my Engine. Looking for the best advice on a replacement There's so many options, this is almost like your woman saying "Does this make me look fat?"
If numbers mean anything you may wish to rebuild yours. It's a Model A. If it still runs it's very repairable. Still, does my pickup make me look fat? |

Re: Just blew my Engine. Looking for the best advice on a replacement i know most of you guys are purists on model a's but for a good running motor, with those add-ons you can;t beat the price. before i installed the flathead in my coupe, the banger with what i wanted on it inserted bearings, high comp. head, touring grind six grand or more. crazy. Re: Just blew my Engine. Looking for the best advice on a replacement If you spend enough for another engine maybe you will treat it with a bit more respect. It's like that old western where they try to run an old weathered nag till it drops from exhaustion!

Re: Just blew my Engine. Looking for the best advice on a replacement i really think for what they get for a 4 cyl. model a motor and with your core, thier out of there minds. JMO

Amazing how that works! |
Re: Just blew my Engine. Looking for the best advice on a replacement IMO I would go for the engine jan bogert's friend has. As long as she runs solid and all seems good with it how can you loose, especially since its pretty close by.

Re: Just blew my Engine. Looking for the best advice on a replacement What ever happened to the days of buying the whole Model A car for a few hundred dollars just so you could get the lower mile engine out of it?
Maybe instead of buying a new $6,000 engine set up, just buy a whole complete Model A. Still a few good deals out there. Maybe you will get lucky and get better tires to boot...:):):) |
Re: Just blew my Engine. Looking for the best advice on a replacement Don't go there...You can think about it, just DOOOONNNN'T do it.
