I’m sure you know this but 3rd gear is direct drive. I don’t know what the issue is but feel for sure it will need to come out. Driving it may possibly damage it further. I’m sure you will get some...

Rods are the same for US made engines. Some of the French made engines used a shorter rod and a stock Ford piston on their 4 inch stroke crank engines but these are not very common.

These are stamped/wrapped sheet metal and in my opinion a challenge to straighten correctly. It can be done but honestly you would be better to find a replacement.

Be sure to eat lots of fish and chips everywhere you go. Not restaurants but the little takeaway shops. The best. Meat pies and sausage rolls are great also.

There is also a 32-33 crank gear and matching cam gear. Top set in pic is 32.

Brian I have had the exact same thing happen with my balancer dude. Only I have found even the NOS 21A rods need resized. I have my own Sunnen rod hone and had sized and polished the rods before...

Here’s my crank and block it came in. I have owed this engine for 55 years the first flathead I bought and still have it. Block is about to get a stroker crank and all the goodies.

Yes Tim , it’s from the first flathead I ever bought when I was 15 still have it. Would be a Canadian engine. 41 Merc. Has the 4 freeze plugs in panels like earlier engines. Is 3 3/16” bore.
