Re: alternative to red fluid fuel gauge?

the specific gravity of tetra-bromo-ethane is 2.95
the specific gravity of mecurochrome is 0.89-0.95
So that won't work...and is probably even more toxic than the tetra!

Re: 16' inner tubes

I always use tractor tubes; they are of heavier material, and the valve stems are correct size for early Ford rims

Re: Contemplating a radiator burp tank

Re: Detonation in my 59AB engine

Why do they call it "68 advance curve"?

In post#7 I put up a chart, a bit hard to read, sorry, that shows the advance details of various distributor versions. The '68' refers to 1936 model Fords....

Re: Detonation in my 59AB engine

The distributor you get third gen to modify will fix your detonation...using the '68' advance curve is a far better solution than either retarding the whole distributor, or cranking down the vacuum...

Re: floating brake shoes on 34 front drums

Vincent, will that engine actually fit into the engine bay? Not a lot of room in a 34 ford. you still have the french governor casting piece at back of block; will that clear the firewall? I had to...

Re: alternative to red fluid fuel gauge?

The original dye used to colour the tetra-bromo-r-ethane was branded as 'Durant scarlet dye'.

Re: Cruising your stocker

I'd say your desired 55-60 MPH cruising speed is right on with your 3.78 gearing.

Re: Another carburetor question

the stainless fasteners and linkages, along with the 'S' symbol stamped into the choke butterfly tell me this is a 'genuine' British Stromberg
Again, I doubt it needs a rebuild- what for??

Re: Another carburetor question

That looks like one of those 'genuine' English built strombergs. As such, I very much doubt it needs a rebuild

Re: Detonation in my 59AB engine

i had the same problem with an engine a while back. It had 165 lbs compression at cranking speed and would detonate badly. I modified the advance curve of the crab distributor by using the advance...

Re: Another Cam question - Isky max 1

Cam selection is a bit of a compromise; the efficiency of performance cams tends to push the RPM's of the engine up, with a corresponding lose of performance [from stock] in the lower rev ranges. I...

to remove the oil pump, after undoing the one bolt that holds it into place, use a big wrench on the body of the pump to twist it for sideways, this will break the bond that has...

Re: 35 Tudor Lights

To remove the headlite bezel, after unlatching it at the bottom like you have, just pull it from the bottom forward and up. Maybe, because it's been in place so long it is somewhat stuck. You may...
