Re: Fitting rings question
Hi JB. That's a pretty common ring type in heavy duty diesel engines. Yes, the spring is necessary, but I agree with your choice of going with the rings you've ordered. The Hastings 3 pc oil ring is...

Re: My new 1930 2-dr sedan
Hi Mike. Great car! :) You are probably aware, but when downshifting the engine needs to be sped up while the trans is in neutral and your foot is off the clutch during the double clutch process. Try...

Re: 8BA front seals
Roll 'em in firmly with a big socket or piece of pipe then trim as vincent says. No way would the "best" seals pack into the grooves at supplied length. Hard to cut too...have a very sharp razor...

Re: Fitting Rod Bearings
That is correct. Measure several places on the crank journal looking for size, taper and roundness. Same with the rod after torquing it to spec.

Re: Fitting Rod Bearings
Yes, that will work fine. I agree with you...any rod that requires more weight than its own is too tight for me.

Re: 49 8BA has no power
The stock 8BA distributor has no mech advance. Only vac, so if it's not working you have no advance.

Re: Burtz vibrations
Hi Lawrie, and thanks for the pics. Well done on the mounts. I'd be interested in seeing your drawings as I'm about to do a similar mounting. Also, do you remember how thick the wood is where the...

Re: V8 Clutch Question
Lenny- there's no need to have the clutch engage so high as long as it releases properly. You can give it more play at the top and it'll be more like you want, just so it doesn't fail to release when...

Re: Wrist pins
The pin should fit just a bit looser in the rod bushing than in the piston. The piston quickly heats up and the clearance there increases, while rod bushing clearance stays fairly consistent. A good...

Re: Cam gurus- Thoughts on the specs of this cam.
Although the 10/50 50/10 valve events mimic the 8CM cam, the 8CM is at advertised opening rather than at .050". I wonder what the advertised specs are for this one....can't have both advertised and...

Re: 1941 cooling
The temp gauge in my '41 Merc runs 3/4 gauge all the time with 180 thermostats. Full scale hot is approx 212-215 degrees. If you're not losing water it's not running too hot. As for oil pressure,...

Re: Ford Flathead transmission Gear Ratios
The input shaft will have either 16 or 15 teeth if the cluster has 28 or 29. The pairs will add up to 44. (16+28 or 15+29) Those are common. VanPelt's website lists the ratios of the various...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. When you're short of cash you do what you have to do. Not all of us have large amounts of elective spending. Keep smokin'! :)
