Re: Paint for my 32 Ford

The first place I'd try is TCP Global. They were very helpful when I sourced paint for my 32 Tudor. In any case, the original Ditzler code for the "Brewster Green Medium" color (real dark) is...

Re: Tech 101: Oil Viscosity Versus E85 > From Hemmings

Interesting article. However, I doubt any of us are using E85, especially in our carbureted engines. There also may be reasons other than fuel dilution not to use E85.

Re: Shifter conversion

Here's yet another approach. This one uses a late 50 Merc OD trans and an early 3-speed top. Posted 10 years ago.

Re: Uvira Headlight Reflector Coating

Vacuum Orna-Metal only refinishes plastic parts, no metal parts. They do refinish headlight reflectors, but only the modern, plastic ones - on which they deposit chrome. Their results look very...

Re: Wheel cylinder lube

Raybestos used to sell an assembly fluid for wheel cylinders. I got some a few years ago. Very useful when rebuilding cylinders and then not using them right away.

Re: '32 gas tank pick up and setwart-warner float

Sounds like an great solution. I look forward to seeing some photos! I'm going to try something very similar.

Re: '32 gas tank pick up and setwart-warner float

The 1 1/4+ inch float diameter in that linear sending unit requires the use of a pick up somewhere outside of the tank hole. Using one of the mounting screw holes is an elegant solution to that...

Re: Uvira Headlight Reflector Coating

In my searching around, I had found Vacuum Orna-Metal's website and it appeared that they only did metalizing of plastic & ceramic materials. But a closer read of their website indicates they do...

Re: Uvira Headlight Reflector Coating

That phone number is disconnected. The other number listed for them, 541-474‑5050, also is a non-working number. A search doesn't turn up anything useful either.

Uvira Headlight Reflector Coating

Has anyone recently dealt with Uvira, the company in Oregon that refurbished headlight reflectors? Both of the two phone numbers I have for them are no longer in service. If Uvira is out of...

Re: The loss of a true legend in the hobby-- David Rehor

Like many others, I will deeply mlss David on a personal basis. He was a very generous person, giving his time and attention to folks like me who were, and still are, learning about the very early...

Re: Question for the group regarding new reproductions and items available again.

When a reproduction part become unavailable (or "out of stock" on all the vendor websites) for an extended period (like 6 months), I tend to assume that it's gone forever. So, posting a notice about...

Re: Did the 32 coupe use 3/8" diameter or 1/2" wind lace

FWIW, my original measures 0.450". LeBaron Bonney supplied windlace measures about 0.425"

Re: Tom Whitney,Flathead V8 Generator Conversions

Very sad indeed. I agree, Tom was a very nice person. In some long phone calls, Tom very patiently schooled me on servicing one of his alternators when I needed to make changes to use a different...

Re: Steering gear

Some folks here have used STP. A bit more fluid than Corn Head. Never tried it myself but something worth considering.

Re: Waking up a Sleeping Beauty, 1934 5 window

I had the same problem with repro king pin locks. No way they would work! I had a few used originals and reused them. Had to carefully dress them a bit, but they fit perfectly.

Re: Model B vs. Model A Crankshafts

Answer to part of my question: both rod and main bearings are larger. But can any of the parts be interchanged between the A and B.

Model B vs. Model A Crankshafts

The Model B and Model A crankshafts and main caps are different. What is the difference? Can either of these Model A parts be used on a Model B and vice-versa?

Re: Camshaft: New vs Regrind

Very good info in this thread. Would like to see some expert comments on the viability, pro/con of using either Chevy valves or lash caps if using the thin-headed adjustable lifters.

Re: A very nice '32...

The comments during this option mentioned a supposed problem with all 32 Fords - that the fenders cause the front end to lift at high speed thus causing steering problems. I've heard that theory...

Re: 90 wt HYPOID lube vs 80-90 GEAR oil

The conventional wisdom is to use GL-4 gear oil in the trans and GL-5 gear oil in a hypoid differential like a shoebox Ford. (The banjo-type earlier differentials (spiral bevel, not hypoid) would...

Re: Need to know 1949 -53 Mercury V8 Piston Pin Height

Piston manufacturers' specs quote the compression height as 1.436" - 1.438. But some quote the CH as 1.62 - 1.65 which seems weird. The height of the dome is 3/16".
