Steering column / horn rod mis-match
The car is a 1929 Tudor.
I'm working my way through it and trying to put things back to stock. Thus far I've done the headlights, the wiring harness, and a few other odds and ends. Now I need...

Steering bracket screws
Hello again… I need to lower the steering column in my 29 Tudor to replace the horn rod. The screws that hold the yoke to the bracket are stuck. I’ve tried penetrating oil but no luck. I’m tempted to...

Horn rod spider stuck
I can’t find Vol 1 of the Les Andrews book, but I’m having a problem getting my horn rod out. I pushed the spider in and got the C clip off, but the spider won’t slide down off the rod. I thought I...

Re: Parking brake ratchet replacement
Here in KS there's a "VIN inspection" for cars purchased out of state (it's make-work for retired State Troopers) and when they do it they also check basic safety stuff like brake lights, headlights,...

Re: Refurb headlights or buy new
Thanks for that--Unfortunately, the buckets were gutted when whoever-it-was hacked them to install the "sealed beam" lamps. I have the buckets, the trim ring, and that's it--I don't have sockets,...

Re: Refurb headlights or buy new
Good advice, Bob. I didn't mention it, but this is part of my wiring harness replacement project. Untangling the mess has been interesting... in the ancient Chinese curse sense.

Re: Hydraulic Brakes over Mechanical
I drove my Model A coupe to work in the CA Bay Area three days a week on my 17-mile round-trip commute. Of course, it wasn't on the freeway, but it was in CA traffic with CA drivers, where a left...

Refurb headlights or buy new
As I continue digging through electrical problems, I took apart the "sealed beam" headlights that someone installed on my Tudor. Partly because they're the wrong thing, partly because the light...

Re: Parking brake ratchet replacement
Good advice--I always chock it when I'm working on it since my driveway has an incline. In the garage not so much, unless I have one or more wheels off the ground.
I suppose if the repop...

Re: 2 spare wheels
Is this for everyday use, or just for touring? Two wheels might be a little much for where the bracket attaches to the car, and over time you'd likely develop stress cracks or other deformation. You...

Re: Parking brake ratchet replacement
Thanks guys. I got it off. The screw came right out but the plate was rusted in place pretty good. A couple gentle whacks and it came. I’ll try to clean things up before the replacement part arrives

Parking brake ratchet replacement
Still working on getting the car on the road. Next on my list is getting the ebrake working so I can work on it in the driveway without having to chock a wheel.
The ebrake handle is the...

Re: Back in the game
Agreed. Someone who didn't know much might have that idea. Probably the kid I bought it from bought it as a "restored" car. Of course, I didn't pay a "restored" price, so there's that. But a (bad)...

Yeah and I can actually respect that. Not everyone likes the same stuff. Late 60s early 70s stuff mostly leaves me cold.
I thought it was cool that he was interested and tried it out. But you have...

Re: Seat options for 31 pickup
And in this case "average size" means are you of average size for 1931. The average male was around 5' 7" in 1931. If you're of average size in 2024, the seat will be a tight fit. At 6' 1" I don't...
