Default Horn rod spider stuck

I can’t find Vol 1 of the Les Andrews book, but I’m having a problem getting my horn rod out. I pushed the spider in and got the C clip off, but the spider won’t slide down off the rod. I thought I remembered that the clip was the only thing holding the spider on… what am I missing?

I just did this. You are correct nothing else holding it on. The spider might be hung up on the grove. Don't let it break lose and shoot across the garage.

A helper....one under the car holding the spider from going left to right with a rag, or a small pair of pliers. The other in the cab wiggling the thing on and off, maybe a little tug on each end after a few motions. I have had this happen too. Patience is the key. Careful not to tar your chrome parts off the tube up in the cab area.
