I'm thinking of installing a PCV valve to control oil mist exiting the oil filler tube and coating my firewall. I plan on mounting it in the upper rear corner of the valve chamber cover and routing it to the intake manifold. My question is, should a close off the oil filler tube so as to obtain a negative pressure inside the crankcase??

![]() Hi Al, Leave the filler tube open. You want fresh air coming in to replace what the PCV sucks from the crankcase.. Greg out west,, |

If you close off the filler tube, how will fresh air enter the crankcase? You need to have an in and an out.
Greg, you type faster than I do ![]() |

CarlG, I ordered one from eBay (item #360361033158) which includes the rubber grommet. I am going to install it in the upper rear corner of the valve chamber cover using the rubber grommet. It's probably going to be a 1" or greater hole in the valve cover.

You might want to check out this thread. There's some good info and questions to think about if considering adding a PCV.

Your rings must be tired. Why not just add an accessory breather tube?

I had excessive blow- by and had rings shipped in a white box. They were grant rings. The blow-by was really bad. I put a rubber glove over the filler pipe and it blew uo like a balloon at idle.I noticed that the paper with the rings said printed in U.S.A but did not say where the rings were made. I had 2000 miles on these rings and when I took the engine apart I found they were completly worn out. The contact on the face of the ring was right to the maximum. I also measured the cylinders before I put these rings in and it was exact specs. I bought Hastings rings. Made in U.S.A. and have had no blow-by and the rubber glove just flutters at 1000 R.P.M. This is a real good test to see if your blow-by is excessive. The moral of the story is buy only made in U.S.A. parts .
