PCV Valve Question I'm thinking of installing a PCV valve to control oil mist exiting the oil filler tube and coating my firewall. I plan on mounting it in the upper rear corner of the valve chamber cover and routing it to the intake manifold. My question is, should a close off the oil filler tube so as to obtain a negative pressure inside the crankcase??

Re: PCV Valve Question Hi Al, Leave the filler tube open. You want fresh air coming in to replace what the PCV sucks from the crankcase.. Greg out west,, |
Re: PCV Valve Question If you close off the filler tube, how will fresh air enter the crankcase? You need to have an in and an out.
Greg, you type faster than I do :) |
Re: PCV Valve Question Al in NY: After you do it could you post pictures and p/n's of what you used. Thanks.

Re: PCV Valve Question Fast typing or not, you both got it right!

Re: PCV Valve Question I would be very interested in which PCV valve to use, and where and how it's mounted to the valve cover. I have a Weber carb that already has a PCV port on it.

Re: PCV Valve Question CarlG, I ordered one from eBay (item #360361033158) which includes the rubber grommet. I am going to install it in the upper rear corner of the valve chamber cover using the rubber grommet. It's probably going to be a 1" or greater hole in the valve cover.

Re: PCV Valve Question Your rings must be tired. Why not just add an accessory breather tube?

Re: PCV Valve Question Thanks MALAK, I did a Ford Barn search on PCV's, but didn't find that thread by MIKEK, very informative

Re: PCV Valve Question I had excessive blow- by and had rings shipped in a white box. They were grant rings. The blow-by was really bad. I put a rubber glove over the filler pipe and it blew uo like a balloon at idle.I noticed that the paper with the rings said printed in U.S.A but did not say where the rings were made. I had 2000 miles on these rings and when I took the engine apart I found they were completly worn out. The contact on the face of the ring was right to the maximum. I also measured the cylinders before I put these rings in and it was exact specs. I bought Hastings rings. Made in U.S.A. and have had no blow-by and the rubber glove just flutters at 1000 R.P.M. This is a real good test to see if your blow-by is excessive. The moral of the story is buy only made in U.S.A. parts .
