While I can think of a couple of obscene captions...
This looks to be an anti-theft device that is screwed together (likely with a 5 point or 7 point allen socket), allowing the ball to freely rotate making it difficult for a thief to remove the ball. |

I was thinking the same thing, but then decided not to post, because what good does a security device do on a tow vehicle? They only make sense on the trailer.

Could a person remove the nut from a ball if the coupler had a padlock on it for theft prevension? Then he'd just drop the threaded shank into his receiver, reinstal the nut and drive off? Perhaps a rotating ball prevents this. Oh, and what size IS that ball? A 3 5/16" ?? looks huge!

I wonder if it’s for a Gooseneck hitch that somebody put on a receiver……..Mark

SAFTY CHAINS, WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN SAFTY CHAINS, I had my
buddy Goober welding everything for at least 15 minuets and it's so dang strong that pulling the 65 ft. tri axel trailer thru the Rockies will be like a breeze, TRUST ME. ![]() ![]() ![]() .
