Default How Do You Tighten 8BA Crank Pulley Bolt

I want to check the torque of the bolt that secures the crank pulley to the crankshaft. The engine is in my 40 Ford.

What is the best method used to prevent the crank from rotating when I tighten the bolt? Bolt tightens by turning it clockwise when standing in front of the car? The torque is 45-55 foot pounds.

Would it be ok to put the transmission "in gear" with emergency brake "on"?
Thanks, JIM
