A clean '34 Roadster
I was tooling around the user galleries this morning and ran into "34s4ever's" '34 roadster. When you get right down to it, it's hard to argue against the '33/'34 Ford as the prett... To read the rest of this blog entry from The Ford Barn, click here. |

Re: A clean '34 Roadster
I'd forgotten how simply elegant these look when they're not all street-rodded. Thanks for the reminder of these beautiful cars. I had dismissed these years ago when ZZTop had theirs and all the others followed.

RYAN ...........................
In my opinion, the 1933-34 Roadster has to be about the best looking FORD car built during the flathead era. MIKE |

Re: A clean '34 Roadster
Thanks Ryan..Glad you like my roadster..
It is my opinion that the lines of 33's/34's are the most beautiful and elegant of any Ford.. |

Keystone 34 3W ..........................
On my unrestored '34 phaeton, the mirror bracket is not chrome, but appears to be a dark brown paint. I don't know what the judging sheets say. It sure looks good in chrome ! MIKE |

Sure is a beautiful roadster! I also like the 33-34s. My favorite Woody is the 33!

Re: A clean '34 Roadster
I like a '33 and '34 Ford anything. Unfortunately most everything is priced out of my league. I'm not giving up on owning one yet though.

Re: A clean '34 Roadster
Always liked the '33 side louvers best - just a bit of curve which works better with the grille. Love to have either a roadster or coupe - fine cars indeed. Very much in the design approach used for the Lombard/Gable Duesenberg to my eye. Edsel and Gregoire did some great cars.

Re: A clean '34 Roadster
34's4ever, that's a beautiful car! I think the '33-'34 Ford roadster is very elegant, especially when compared to other Ford's. The grille, suicide doors and top all parallel the looks of some high end cars of that era.
The one Chris is building on here should be top notch as well. I can't wait to see it done! His style is dead on. |

Re: A clean '34 Roadster
33/34 Fords were the last Fords with true classic styling. Viewed from the side, the grille is more or less centered over the front axle. Later Fords moved the grille and sheet metal forward beyond the center line in the interest of greater interior room and a better ride. It took Edsel Ford's backing of designer Bob Gregorie's work on the British Ford Model Y to bring this all about. Gregorie also designed the 1940 Fords and Lincoln Continental, and was greatly influenced by yacht design. Hence the prow-like grilles and side trim similar to racing (sail) yachts. An incredibly gifted designer -- we can all thank Edsel for giving him the chance. And no thanks to Henry here, except for grudgingly allowing Edsel to run the design studio. Old news to many of you, but I repeat it for those who are new. Have to say (with apologies to any Edsel owners out there) that I think the Edsel design was a sad memorial to the man who was directly responsible for some to the greatest designs in automotive history. Victor Borge referred to the grille as the new "vaginal look" . . . ! By the way, the classic styling of the 33/34 Fords also applies to those Duesenbergs you have recently developed an appreciation for, Ryan. Thanks so much for sharing your eye with us here!
