halogen bulbs....

High beam burned out simultaneously, in both bulbs, after some time of good use. Low beam on both bulbs work fine yet. Any elect gurus have an idea/theory of what may have gone wrong ..or be wrong with my headlight system , for this to happen. Want to change bulbs , but not till I figure how to prevent same same. I have a 'theory' myself, but will defer to those who know automotive wiring, before expressing.
