halogen bulbs....
 

High beam burned out simultaneously, in both bulbs, after some time of good use. Low beam on both bulbs work fine yet. Any elect gurus have an idea/theory of what may have gone wrong ..or be wrong with my headlight system , for this to happen. Want to change bulbs , but not till I figure how to prevent same same. I have a 'theory' myself, but will defer to those who know automotive wiring, before expressing;).

bad connection between charging system and battery can cause voltage spike

you need to give more description of any differences between your system and stock system---modifications can create different problems that stock systems

Hey Kurt,
'30 roadster with alternator and stock wiring/light switch...and halogen bulbs.
I usually get the alternator 'excited' into charge mode...then put lights on high or low. If remembered correctly, when the high elements blew out, I had turned the lights on...then gunned the engine to excite the alternator.
I'm thinking a 'spike' in power did the bad thing, not sure though ?

I think you are right about that spike. I always recommend to get the alternator charging first, then turn on the lights. I've seen a couple alternator regulators go bad and put out too much voltage.

Hardtimes, why don't you modify the alternator to a 3 wire and eliminate the process of having to really rev up the engine to get the alternator to excite. Send me an email and will send you the instructions on how to do the job for only a couple of bucks. [email protected]
