Default "A" wheels on a 48 rear?

Hey all- I DID the search thing, found a lot of usefull info, but would like some clarification..I'm using a 48 rear in my roadster, and have 19'' wheels. The 'hub" of the wheel rests nicelly agains the drum, and have plenty of threads to tighten, but is a spacer required as to not collapse the wheel? I also have early hubs in the front=37-40+,and want my spokes.
Solid wheels seem good to go(40 ford),but Q'ing the spokes because of the back of the wheel(lug/taper) in the hole.
Just do not want to find out the hard way!.
Thanks if this has been re-visited over and over.
