"A" wheels on a 48 rear? Hey all- I DID the search thing, found a lot of usefull info, but would like some clarification..I'm using a 48 rear in my roadster, and have 19'' wheels. The 'hub" of the wheel rests nicelly agains the drum, and have plenty of threads to tighten, but is a spacer required as to not collapse the wheel? I also have early hubs in the front=37-40+,and want my spokes.
Solid wheels seem good to go(40 ford),but Q'ing the spokes because of the back of the wheel(lug/taper) in the hole. Just do not want to find out the hard way!:). Thanks if this has been re-visited over and over. -Kid |
Re: "A" wheels on a 48 rear? Kind of a HAMB question, but I think this is what you need: LINK

Re: "A" wheels on a 48 rear? I am a HAMB regular.... Just thought this might be the place,as more focussed on A's in general. And yes- those were the spacers that i would be refering to.
What jives with what was my Q. Thanks. |

Re: "A" wheels on a 48 rear? Yes you need an adapter. This will probably answer your question:

Re: "A" wheels on a 48 rear? Here's the rule I've been given: If the drum originally had spoke wheels you can use any year spokes. If you put spokes where you originally had a disk wheel, or disks where you originally had a spoke wheel, you'll need an adapter.

Re: "A" wheels on a 48 rear? Model A hubs were not flat where the wheel bolts onto, they had a step in them. This step must be matched in order to keep the wheel from flexing and eventually cracking. Putting washers behind each stud is not the answer!
