Title is worth 500. all day long, so not so sure that was high. Free parts in my book!

Roadster windshield for 300. that's big money........................
tons of motors, not sure who would have wtd to move them in that weather.
Just getting the stuff out of there would have been a pain. Better to pu on Sunday.

yes the truck cab for 4200. was insanity!

Well, hopefully Mike's family was happy with the end result and some of the buyers walked away happy.
Listening to the banter of the auctioneer, I was surprised that a more talented "caller" wasnt used.

Ronn,I was reading that he was talking about the pickup cab.Without the period in there it looks like one sentence.I think anyway.That cab would bring that money where I am if it was solid.Title here is worth zero.

Excuse me for my ignorance, but how can a truck cab have a title? I know it is possible, but without an engine or frame with the serial number on it how can it be verified? Don't ask, don't tell, I guess. Maybe there is something about NJ titles that I don't know.

I wanted to go to the auction just to see what happened, but life intervened.

NJ titles have always been considered very good. NJ was early on issuing them and they have always seemed to be well accepted.

Some few states are pretty simplistic in how you title and old car so those people would not care. In most of the other states a valid NJ title may mean less hassles in doing a transfer.

think of it this way, how many times have you seen a rodder say, body and title not for sale, all chassis parts for sale?

I have bought plenty of chassis this way. Yes, I know the motor # is the serial #, but you will see chassis for sale all of the time on CL or the HAMB this way.

It is up to you to obtain your own title at that point............

Mike already had titles for many of his bodies, however it was done.........

Thanks, Ronn. Not to get into a philosophical or legal discussion here, but what is the title to, exactly? Modern cars it is the VIN, which is part of the body, so that is the car. With a Model A it is either the engine or the chassis, which have the serial number on it. It is one or the other, but we all know engines get swapped. Why couldn't someone say, I have the door for a Tudor for sale and it comes with title? How can you prove it one way or the other. I guess this is why there is a market for titles.

No need for anyone to respond, just a mental exercise for me today. :-)

For NJ a title is need to get plates.

I have seen more then one car where the numbers on the car don't match the title, but it has plates.

A title has different meanings to people depending on the state you come from. Here in NJ we like titles, but out state is pretty good about paperwork from other states. Other states you seem to go through hell to get to the point where you can get plates on the car depending on stuff.

I was kind of surprised when I bought a car from VT. At the time all you needed was a bill of sale. You send them the old plates and they send you a regisration and plates. I took them to NJ DMV and walked out with a NJ title and reg.

A 1930 Deluxe Phaeton sold for only $12,000???? Was it really rough and/or incomplete? A South American right-hand disaster? That price seems mighty cheap, even for an entry level Deluxe Phaeton. Photos or a link to photos?

I see that "Ronn" briefly described the Deluxe Phaeton, although I was still hoping to see a photo. I don't belong to Facebook and do not wish re-activate my erstwhile account that I was coerced into opening a few years ago. I have never posted on it and when I followed the link to see the cars, Facebook pulled a semi-opaque white curtain over the photos with a request to log in or sign up. 'Not going to happen. So, I guess I won't see the photos that way.

The cabriolet cowl and doors didn't have a title. When I said the cab was a high price I meant the truck cab for 4,000. compare that to the truck cowl and rear valance for 525 with title.

I agree that a cab or just a cowl shouldn't come with a title. I guess they had extra titles after they assigned them to the whole cars. They were fast and loose with some of them.

The baby bird had a 302 engine. An actual thunderbird engine sold separately for about 1500.

What information is on a title?

1) Identification number
2) Year
3) Make
4) Model
5) Body type

The guy that bought the truck has 4 out of the 5 items, and with a set of stamps he has the 5th.

regarding the phaeton, yes very fair deal. I just didnt want to deal with all new wood, frame sag and the elements and crowds. Nicer one sold on ebay 2 months ago for 12.5k, but was missing top and seats. the seats in the front of this one came out of a tudor and the top was almost dust. I believe the wood on the ebay one was useable. The doors on Mikes were tweaked and you need to redo both the wood and car frame.
The T bird was only worth what it sold for. Much of the paint on these cars left a lot to be desired, and you wont see that in the photos. Even the bargain panel truck had excessive pitting under the paint. So what you see in photos isnt always what you see in person.
