I beg to differ, I predict we'll be seeing more in the coming years.

Looks like the 6 % Buyers premium kept the prices down on the cars.

Re: Torowus auction results

Having looked at the cars on Friday Wick- prices tended to be a little on the high side.

big surprise for me was the 32 ford tudor- I expected around 20k. Great car with a 30 year old restoration that could use a bit of polish.
Great jeep, but no title. Ghia, totally maxed out on price. A delivery was high, needing complete new wood, but where are you going to find one?
The bargains were, the panel truck and sport coupe body.
Thank you Dave, for sharing the results and btw- the weather was terrible!

just an opinion............

Re: Torowus auction results

For all the hype, those prices seemed reasonable. Was there a large crowd?

Re: Torowus auction results

So you mean the cars were not good? That's a crazy price for a jeep

It was snowing hard during the auction. Lots of the parts went for giveaway prices.

Re: Torowus auction results

first of all, you have to understand the rarity of that jeep- Ford Jeep-very few made and extremely
collectible
the cars looked better in the photos then in person to me................... so the prices were pretty strong. I was there for the 180 and 12k was certainly fair. The frame had sag and the interior wood frame needed to be completely redone, so I was not a contender. It was from South America, as the cut out for the right hand steering column was there.
I am sure many parts went cheap, but just wasnt interested in parts with a 13% premium, bad weather and large crowds, so I passed on the auction, but loved seeing the preview on Friday.

They posted videos of the Jeep and Panel Delivery auctions on Facebook.

Not sure if that link will work for everyone.

Buyer's 'penalties' are a turn off when it comes to auctions at least for me. I never bother with an auction that charges that. To me it's a big rip-off. Throw 6% or so on top of the 10% sometimes 20% the auctioneer is getting,,, yeah right.

At the Iowa Gas petroliana auction in August they charge a buyer's fee plus Ia. state sales tax. Haven't been back there in almost 15 years won't waste my time.

Local auctioneer that goes to our church told me that Illinois proposed a sales tax a number of years ago for items sold at auction and that went down in a big ball of flame, crashed and burned. Never brought up again. At least that was one good thing that came out of Springfield;).

same thing has occurred at Hershey over the years....... small time vendors have run away. Dennis Carpenter was clever enough to circumvent PA sales tax-you go to his booth, look at the part and pick up one of the many phones present and make a call to his place in the Carolinas and order the part..............................;).
clever guy!

Re: Torowus auction results

I saw a guy in a parts store that was driving down for the Jeep.He has some real odd military equipment, and was hoping to score that jeep for $15,000.He was banking on the fact that it didn't have a title, hoping it would turn buyers off. That is a zero issue for us,no title required.I have no idea if the bought it or not,as I really don't know him well,I only see him at parts stores and cruise nights. He said it was a 7 hour ride for him to get there.

Re: Torowus auction results

Rainy and snowy all day it must have snowed 3 inches and lots of parts got covered and some times hard to see what you were buying. The crowd thinned as the morning went on due to the weather but the true car guys stuck around and got soaked. From my point of view a premium was paid for the good stuff. Well worth my 7 hour ride to attend the auction and pick up a few parts I wanted. My only regret was not paying 300.00 for the 28 roadster windshield frame but the other guy really wanted it. Hard to say what his stopping point was but it went to a good home.

Any summaries of what stuff sold for?

What did engines sell for and what not. Just curious on some local spot prices.

tribouboys 04-10-2016 07:55 PM

Re: Torowus auction results

Model A engines sold for 30.00-40.00 a piece. Trans sold for 50-60 bucks except the 1 early 28 with flat pedals and multi disc clutch. The high bidder had a choice of frames for 325.00. Pallets of misc parts 10.00 bucks. I think the big surprise for me was the 30-31 truck cab for 4200.00

Dave Mellor NJ 04-10-2016 10:38 PM

Re: Torowus auction results

The 32 V8 engine only brought 2300. Straight windshield cabriolet cowl and doors only 200 High price for the cab but it had a title. cowl and valance with title for 525 was cheap.A lot of deals if you had the perseverance. I still don't think you'll see more auctions like this due to the scale.Especially this much Model A

Re: Torowus auction results

Sorry but that Auction will look like a Yard Sale here in Va! There 3 Model A collections with quality sheet metal, engines, cars within a 100 mile radius of Richmond VA. that I've seen already. Then there's the 32 ford collection in N.C.
