From my experience in dealing with plating shops.

If you decide to have them plated ask them if they first copper plate, then a nickel plate and final chrome plate (triple plate). Some of the shops only do a copper plate and then chrome plate, (double plate) to keep costs down, and guess what the quality also goes down and they are more susceptible to rusting.
