Forged bumper clamps
 

I sorted through my 15 or 16 original forged bumper clamps to get 4 decent ones. I beadblasted them to see how they looked. They are still slightly rust pitted (not bad though) and a couple have some minor dings - however, nothing bad. My question is: Does anyone know a place that re-chromes original bumper clamps at a reasonable price. I would want the clamps to come out very nicely.

no such thing as reasonable price to chrome, I think you will find that buying repops is cheaper than having yours chromed..

Rusty, ABC Plating in sparks Nevada does xlnt work and reasonable, had them do all the chrome on my 35 chevy, turned out beautiful, you can take and send them pictures and they will give you a quote, of course shipping will be an extra cost, waste a phone call and talk to them , 1 775 358 2929

Lopez, at times new are cheaper, but if you have forged clamps its best to keep them, the repo cast ones break easy

Craig Riker in Ohio 419-290-4442. Replates a lot of Original Model A Parts , some for fine point. Prices are good. Call him for a quote.

I don't know about where to get parts chromed anymore. The forged clamps are very good for a driver car 28 through 31 when clamp covers are used and pitting doesn't even matter in such cases because it gets covered.

I bought bumper clamps from A&L about 20 years ago, and they look to be top quality.

Rusty like Jim says, terry meeks has done them and they really look good. Then send to Jim Brand for the paining and he can add some glaze to fill the pits...

From my experience in dealing with plating shops.

If you decide to have them plated ask them if they first copper plate, then a nickel plate and final chrome plate (triple plate). Some of the shops only do a copper plate and then chrome plate, (double plate) to keep costs down, and guess what the quality also goes down and they are more susceptible to rusting.

you don't chrome those, you have the pits filed, sanded or polished out

Please remember that the painted centers were not polished but left a rough, forged surface. Also, when you have your platers work on them, let them know that the outside edges were clearly rounded and not squared off. I have seen so many platers grind off the detail of the rounded edges. You definately have a couple here that will plate up nicely.
