It could be a bad battery cable connection. It is more than likely that the starter drive is stuck against the flywheel, this is common. Put the transmission in second or high gear, rock the car back and forth untill you hear a click and the starter will be unstuck and ready to crank. When the starter drive sticks, you can't even turn the engine with the hand crank. Rocking the car back and forth in gear will usually unstick the starter.
