Warbird just posted about Drake re-issuing 1940 bumper guards (ty). Mike Driscoll started a thread years ago "New Products Available...", of which I have posted to several times.
The questions I have is first is the "New Products Available..." of value to the group? Should re-issues of previouly reproduced items be posted to the "New Products Available..." (as I have done with a couple of Carpenter items), To a new "Repro Parts Available Again" thread, as an individual thread (as Warbird did), or not at all? Should there be time limit for having been out of stock? If so how long... 1 year, 2 years, 5 years? This forum is supposed to avoid blatant advertising, so most posters to the "New Products Available..." have limited themselves to one announcement (or occasional progress reports to a project with beginning, intermediate and end reports". Should this convention also apply if a "Repro Parts Available Again" thread get started? Karl |

I like the idea of notices regarding repro parts that come back into production and sale. So many parts seem to have stopped being produced, for lots of reasons, but if someone restarts a production of an out-of-stock item, I think it's worthy of a mention.

I also like the idea of notices for repro parts that come back into production. For instance, any '42-'47 pickup specific parts being available again. They were scarce ten+ years ago...now there are nearly none, unless they're also used on the cars. For me, because I own one, knowing about available repro parts for them is important.

I like the idea of posting new restoration products or back in stock after a good while. It reminds me that now would be the time to order, before the supply disappears forever.

Maybe a "heads up" within that thread of previously (long out of stock) items that have resurfaced should serve all of us well.

How about "Reproduction Parts back in stock". Also in the ad what supplier or suppliers have them.

Letting folks know that previously out of stock parts are available is a good idea.

Karl,
My .02 and admittingly I had started that thread; you and I being dealers are aware of items that resurface after months of no stock. The average consumer is not and that can put them on hold. A great example is the 40 bumper guards. I am working on a 1940 and while as a vendor I knew they were coming back, if I was a consumer I would have shipped off the originals to a plater to spend $150.00 each without knowledge they are back available. The good thing with drake unlike others is if you click "back in stock" their site it shows the new arrivals. From talking with Trent Drake I know they have a few needed parts that will be back available this spring/summer I also know that that thread shouldn't be to "self promote" and I know you and I post things we have just come out with. Maybe that is walking a fine line of self promotion but I feel it is simply getting word out of something new available. |

35fordtn makes a very valid point. "Self promotion" will not be a problem.

If the fresh availability of a part that has been out of production is okay, I would like to use the “new item” to announce that the 8BA-6335 rear seal retainers are available again. I like the idea, particularly when the item has been unavailable for a year or more. So I would vote in favor of this.
I would also be in favor of the moderators making that thread a sticky at the top of the forum. People won’t naturally go to the trouble of searching for the thread, but would take a look regularly….especially if they are currently looking for a part at the moment.
