Default oil pressure gauge extender pipe

i will be needing to tighten the oil pressure sender that sits in a particularly inaccessible location at the back of the engine and was wondering if anyone has installed an extender pipe?

i was thinking that maybe something like this (assuming the threads fit) might help.

I managed to install a 6"? nipple in order to get the gauge out further. At first it looked near impossible, but it worked out. This was on my '41 Mercury. The threads are 1/4" pipe.

thanks tom,

so does your solution pretty much mimic the one pictured in my link? again, assuming the male and female threads would be 1/4" pipe?

for i can probably screw down the sender that's on my car by hand and get it to stop leaking, but getting it off again, sometime in the future, could be problematical. so am looking for something that i can easily reach with a common wrench.

Huey, Torch a 90 degree bend to the business end of an open end wrench.

What about a Crow Foot wrench? Would that work?

You don't have to buy a special pipe like the one advertised.
Just go to Home Depot and buy a short piece of 1/8-27NPT brass pipe.
Solder or braze a nut around it's circumference for installation.

Fordy is correct. Just extend the horizontal port, and I remembered wrong on the pipe size, as Fordy says it is 1/8".

Bob, I never knew this wrench existed. Cool!

I made one very similar to his from an old wrench I had. No clamp for the unit but have not found that necessary. As Alan had suggested in an earlier post, a little heat, a little bending and my wrench was born

Hmmm, I was right in the first place! A quick look under the hood would have quantified it.

Sorry for the misinformation. I think I used a reducer to make the 1/8-27 fit.
Here's my set up.

I would be afraid of low quality hardware store chinese nipples. they are thin and could crack in the threads. Go to a hydraulic supply store and get quality fittings made for high pressure.

I suppose it is reasonable to assume Chinese fitting quality has improved over the years, but I remember having some that were totally unusable.

i ended up buying this one...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/187124245529

it came in today and was soon fitted. works well. it's allowed me to fix the nasty oil leak and live without fear of having to replace it at some future date.
