Default 53 Ford Ranch wagon front seat install

I see the mounting holes for the front seat. But, looking at the seat it appears that the front should hook into some sort of bracket. Is this correct? Any help? Thanks. TommyJ

I don’t recall any specific brackets that the seat base fits into. On my ‘53 Ranch Wagon, I just lifted the seat in and had a helper lift while I reached thru the interior to pull the seat across the hump. Then set it down to line up with the holes. But it was 25+ years ago. I’ll look at it the garage tomorrow to see if my recollection is off base.

I am not sure if the front seat I have is correct. The seat adjuster lever on mine is on the left side. Should it be on the front? And it has a split back. Thanks. TommyJ

Check page 6-8 of the V-8 Club's 52-53 Ford book. Your seat is correct for the two door Ranch Wagon. If you do not have this two volume book you should buy it. Lots of great information on the 52-53 Fords.

Yep the restoration guidelines are excellent. And I agree your seat sounds like the right one. My memory was pretty good… the seat brackets sit on the floor without any brackets or attachments to slide into. Simply held into place by two bolts on each side. Trying to attach a photo I just took under the seat. If I can attach the photo, you’ll see the floor sheetmetal in tan primer, and the galvanized bracket sits on the floor, with two bolts coming up thru the floor.

On my 54 Victoria, the seat just sits on the floor, no bracket is used. I would imagine that the 53 wagon would be the same.

I think I read that a 4 door front bench seat wouldn't work in the 2 door ranchwagon. Why specifically wouldn't it work? Would it not bolt up or are there other reasons. Reason I am asking is that I have access to a front bench seat out of a 53 4 door car.Thanks..TommyJ..

I think in a 2 door the seat back folds forward so you can get in the back seat and the 4 door seat back does not.

Talking seats, I guess I need something to bolt them to. Anyone have a source for some floor pans / patch panels for a 53 Ranchwagon? OER and classic industry say they have them, but the only thing that shows up is metal plugs for the floor pans. Thanks..TommyJ

I used floor pans from EMS for my '54 Ranch Wagon. Got them from Shoe Box Central. IMO easier to deal with Shoe Box than EN+MS Direct.
