Is this the correct throttle control knob for my 34 pickup? See picture
Based on my searching for new ones online at Dennis Carpenter and Third Gen Auto it looks to be the same shape (different color) but the same online sources also show a rubber grommet which I assume is used on the firewall? |

Nope. What's pictured is 1932 which connects to a bellcrank. 34's have a long rod that goes from the dash thru the firewall to connect to the carb.

Thanks “duece lover”. Ah, I do remember seeing short shafts on the new knobs online for my pickup.
So what secures the choke and throttle shafts where they pass thru the dash? Pictures please. |

The new ones are made with short shafts which you have to adapt to the long extension. Those long extensions were reproduced but not sure if still available. There is a slip on collar that connects them by welding.Rubber grommets for the dash and firewall which are reproduced..

Best way to attach the collar, to join the two pieces together, is to use a center punch or small chisel, place it on an anvil or something to back it up, tap on it to tighten the two pieces Hardly noticeable. Welding would destroy zinc plating and look crappy. My 2 cents.

Back in the day, Ford swaged the short length which had the knob on the end to the long rod into the engine bay. Attached is a clip of one of the Ford Engineering Drawings for 1935 car rods. Other than the length and end point and angle of the rods, they were all about the same shape, a smooth bend from the fire wall to the carb.
Lawson has the right answer for how to best connect the two parts - just like Ford did.
