Just got my glass sediment bowl delivered out of the blue, been backordered for months. From Mikes. Then my Burtz head arrived the same day, life is good. Now I should be ready when the replacement fan arrives, whenever that is. Fitting my rebuilt water pump to the new head, had to turn down the impeller end of shaft in the lathe as it was about 1/2" to long, and to large in diameter to fit in the dimple in the head. Going to work on sheet metal for now until a fan arrives, the do a final fit on the water pump. Never a dull moment, aaahhhh

I find the arrival of long awaited parts is very reminiscent of my childhood on Christmas morning opening gifts!!!

Dropped the restored body onto the restored chassis of my '30 cabriolet today, only took 54 years! Now on to the next set of challenges of fenders, hood, lights & top.

Cleaned up the shop (I spent last week cutting out rotted body pieces, making patch panels, welding, grinding, sanding, welding some more, grinding and sanding some more, you get the idea) since it was a mess of sanding dust, rust and paint flakes. Then spent another hour banging on a fender with hammer and dolly. I really dislike body work!

I have a line on a '29AA which I'm finding out is NOT the 30 and beyond AA.
It's larger than a car, is a kind of an upgrade to the Model T 1 ton, utilizes "hybrid" parts not of car origin - but not quite into the "Big Iron" of the 30-31 Model years. Steve Plucker has a book with contains elements of the Indianapolis Service Bulletins which addresses the "recall" for these trucks where the front spindles/kingpins/perches and other parts were upgraded - those "hybrid" parts. The book is available through MARC - but MARC only sells with Paypal - which I don't use subsequent to a hack about two years ago. (you learn of the hack when you can't access Ebay and they've shut off your account because the purchase seemed "spurious.") So right now we're attempting to purchase the book at MARC direction "with a credit card over the phone." So far its not working.. They have my Email and my query and will direct me further if needed. Edit: They got it to work and the book will be shipped today. Joe K

Today, thought about going over to where my 'A' is parked for her winter slumber, but with it being cold and a new winter storm on the horizon, thought about just staying in the house and keeping warm.

Started restoring another '30-'31 generator. I first I thought I found a slinky inside! But made good progress on it. I'm also refurbishing 6 more original Ford cutouts.

Started it in a -4 C temperature barn. Started right up but sputtered out after 5-7 seconds. Stayed on after the next attempt and purred like a kitten for about 15 minutes when I turned it off. I sit around in the evening wishing global warming would hurry up and get my area up to low double digits so that I can start installing the goodies that I bought before putting "Henry" to sleep for the winter....oil filter system, 6.1:1 head, magnetic oil plug, engine bay side pans, 'real deal seals' for the trans, tank fuel filter, etc. Winters in Germany are LONG! Not brutally cold..but too cold to work on metal in an unheated barn for a 68 year old man when the option is a cozy fireplace and a good book.

Today. I have four new front spring main leafs made by a near by spring works. Because they only know metric, and the A is imperial, I have to custom make the bushes for the eye ends. After measuring, the eyes were rolled to neither. The OD required varied from .745" to .758" for a good fit. So, I bought some 20mm grade 10.9 bolts, chopped the heads off and turned the bushes to each individual size. Bore the ID to .562", parted off at 1.750", press the bush in and final ream to size. Two down, two to go.

We spent some time setting up the computer for the McKensie A's Model A Cub's first zoom meeting! Also got a potential bite on a good B engine I want to sell.
