I am in the process of fitting patch panels and since the the "A" pillars were rusted off just below the bottom hinge, the lowest fender mount hole is gone and I'm trying to use the upper 2 fender mount holes and the running board to find the missing hole location. If someone could post a picture of a done truck so I can see the spacing between the rear of the fender and the door opening. something similar to this drivers side front fender.

The way you are describing "upper 2 fender mount holes" is sounding alarm bells. The 1940-41 pickup only had 2 mount holes on the cowl, the lower one and an upper one that used a short brace. The fender mount holes punched in the cab side are vestigial from 1938-39.
The shape of the back of the fender looks "wrong" but I am not sure why or if it could be an optical illusion. The attached photo shows some of the detail on the cowl without fenders. |

Karl is correct except that the cab holes were for BIG TRUCK fenders. Pickup fenders only bolt to the upper bracket and the running board.

Guys, I don;t want to be Mr Know it all, but I currently have the nose off my 41 pickup and there were two bolts into the cab with cage nuts on bothe sides pluse the top bracket. I had a fun time removing said bolts as the heads were rounded off and as always the nuts spun when the cages sprung out of shape. I would post a photo but I'm here in MO. and the truck is out in OR. at my brothers shop. Tim

That's not "Mr Know It All" its "Mr Know What I Saw". Ford cars and trucks saw a lot of hard use and often had modifications made by owners and dealers. Ford made running changes and some of them are quite rare and not well documented. Ford also is known to have allowed employees to use prototype vehicles in their daily private use (free test bed), and a couple are known to have been sold "used" and survived in the "wild". Even with all of that my guess is your truck had passenger fenders installed at one time and bolt holes added. It is best, IMHO, when dealing with Ford practices it is best to NEVER say "never", and NEVER say "always". |

The bottom most bolt hole in my fender looks factory punched, but the one higher up appears home made and there is no reinforcement or cage nut or anything. There is a slight pad in the fender flange that lines up perfectly with the " L" bract that mounts to the cowl. Here are some pictures of the fender flange. last pic is the pad in the fender flange.
