I too have a home made box that fits between the front bumper supports. Two U shaped steel frames support the box and they were drilled to accept the bolts that hold the bumper braces. Tools, spare parts, oil etc. Only issue is it covers the crank hole. Looks good and I'm pleased with it.

The contoured box also covers the crank hole. With 7:1 compression .100 over and electronic ignition with centrifugal advance, I don't think I would want to try cranking it by hand. I've kind of gotten attached to my thumbs!

Mike's still list these in their on-line catalog. T1000 for 28-29; T1005 for 30-31

I read somewhere that the maker of a front sloped toolbox stopped making them due to complaints but he was willing to dispense the drawings for it should anyone wish to make their own. Are YOU that person? if so, do you still have the plans and are you willing to share them?

Ours has a square one made by a guy in CA. It would be easy to duplicate. There are lots of sources of premade metal boxes.
It also makes a good spot for the trophy that would slide off a curved one...... |

Guten Abend, A gentleman here in the forum rebuilt the box for me using O-tools. Maybe he'll get in touch? (I don't know if he wants to give you his address.)

Werner, love the sleek, aerodynamic lines of your toolbox. Would like to have one like that on my Roadster.

My car came with one of the square boxes in front. It is for sale. I took it off because I thought it spoiled the looks of the front of the car.

I have the square tool box and it is loaded with stuff. This box also is a convenient seat when closed. It looks chunky, but after a while I am oblivious its there.
Purists need not reply to my post because I am not one of you!

There's a guy making them that I saw in a clubs newsletter. I have it sitting in my office and told the guy he should get on the FB and advertise it but evidently he hasn't. It looks like the one first made and I will check when I get back from Wis and get his info.

From what I understand, the original maker of these tool boxes quit making them because he was tired of getting complaints about the fit.
It wasn't the fault of the tool box they didn't fit correctly, but because of all of the bent frame horns that occurred over the last 90 hears. I have had mine for over ten years now, no problems but a few nicks. Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 08-06-2024 at 11:58 AM. |

I think the contoured 1 is very nicely done and adds a lot to the looks of the model A!!!

I bought a box version by Millard Springer. Loved it. I found a cardboard box that exactly fit in Millard's box. no rattle with all the parts I carried for our tours. I used a plastic fishing lured box for small stuff and fitted it in under the front seat. Sold it on the car. (I'm so lost without my Model A!)

I was the guy in Central California that made 100 of those boxes in the early 2000's. Sold them all out in less than a year. There is a fellow named Tom Nelson if Fresno Ca making the curved boxes, and they are very nice and have very good powder coating on them.

Sold mine. Although handy, I thought it detracted from the good looks of the front of the car.
