The 36 Zephyrs used 4.33 ratio with a Ford type banjo. That apparently wasn't a deep enough rear gear for the low torque V12 and heavier car, so 4.44 and 4.55 ratios were used. The hypoid type banjo was introduced in 38 to allow a lower hump in the floor of the car.
