You have the "flat face" type of 60hp water pump. It appears to my untrained eye to be factory correct. The copper ring gasket, next to the threads, seals the pump to the timing cover, while the smaller gasket seals the pump to the inside of the cover. Depending on who made your repair kit, you may have different materials used by the manufacturer to accomplish the same goal in sealing the pump.

Yes, it could be that the one seal in the repair kit replaces both the copper and the old gasket , but I am really not sure here…. The new seal is thicker than the old leather seal , but it is not as thick as the old seal+the copper seal. So If I just use the new seal , this will give a tighter fit on the inner seal…
Strange pumps anyway, they seems to come in many types, not just the tapered and straight variant, mine even had a metall impeller. So they are not only made of Bakelit.

So I installed the overhauled water pump , only to find that it leaks even more at the weeping hole behind the pulley. The repair kit was plug and play and I am pretty sure I did that fine . But during the repair job I noticed that the old impeller was not like the new one in the repair kit, see picture. The old one is made of iron but the one in the repair kit is made of Bakelite . You can also see that the mating surface are different on the two impellers. Is my water pump a very special and rare one? Any tips guys?

It appears that the old impeller has a groove either machined or worn in flat surface of pump housing. This must be absolutely flat all way across. I even polish them on a flat rock with fine wet and dry paper.

Personally I wouldn’t use that housing. It’s junk in my opinion. Fortunately it appears to be the square kind. They are still available NOS I have several.
