For what it is worth, I crawled under my 40 wagon and felt up above where the engine stay rod bolts are and there was no reinforcing doubler plate, checked my coupe and there was. My 40 wagon is a fairly late production 18 585xxxx. Maybe other 40 wagon owners can check theirs. Interesting.

I didn't spend much time researching the wagons and now, in a case like this, I wish I had.

Also it would be interesting if any other owners of a 1940 pickup or convertible could check for the doubler plate and take a measurement of the x-member thickness to add to our knowledge base. 40larry |

SVM99,
Here's two photos of the braces you desire. They were reproduced many years ago so hopefully there's a pair out there for you just waiting to be found. The repops did require a bit of bending and twisting to make fit properly but nothing too serious.

I have a very original '40 Pickup that came from Illinois.
Chassis # 18539 9xxx which would indicate a fairly early example. It does not have the reinforcing plate. Last edited by swoopNZ; 03-28-2021 at 08:36 PM. |

Any suggestions for getting 40 Ford 1/2 T PU X member support brace, passenger side Part # 78-4048 or 49? Don't know if passenger side is 5048 or 8049). Drake no longer makes them.
Thanks, Jack |

Check with Joe's Antique Auto Parts, their part numbers, PC-80 and PC-81.
