Everybody is correct. It is out of alignment.

Look closely and you'll realize that we're seeing this engine from a slight FRONT angle.....not straight-on from the side. DD
As I said it could be an optical illusion caused by lens distortion and most likely is. The only way to know for sure is to put a straight edge across the pulleys. Till that is done no amount of 'guessing' will define if the pulleys are in alignment.
Most likely if nothing is done to correct any misalignment it will run for a long time the way it is without any problems.

Okay, I am just thinking out loud, yeah i realize what I said.
To check clearance, to have peace of mind, get the fan so 1 blade is straight up.
Get a piece of 1/2 inch thick plywood and cut it so it will drop down behind the fan while touching three of the fan blades.
While holding it against the fan. if it clears just fine you have plenty of clearance.
The fan isn't going to go rearward and the belt won't go forward that much.

does that sound reasonable??

I assume you resolved your belt issues.. but in case others made be looking for other options
On my 226 "G" model motor, I custom made an alternator bracket..
I used a double pulley on my alternator.. (just as my generator had a double pulley).. the challenge for me was getting wide belts that were the right or close to the right length.. I settled for narrower belts.. one of them I got from Grainger.. see photos..

I will have to check my receipt.. I bought pulley and 10s.i. alternator.. the alternator went south, 105 amps.. see another thread.. so I put the pulley on a 62 amp alternator..

I think this is the one I used.. 13mm
