Seth- I do work for DoD (Army), but I'm not a contracting officer. I'm a government contracts lawyer and I advise contracting officers at Rock Island Arsenal.
Oh yes, I remember now from a prior discussion. My wife Nicole is a Contracting Officer at USTRANSCOM, Scott AFB. She spent a few weeks at Rock Island Arsenal just over a year ago. When you mentioned the month long training I was familiar with that as Nicole has done those training classes many times.

That's right! I had the same deja vu feeling that we had discussed the connection before too, but couldn't find it.

I was originally planning to do a little tour of the Illinois portion of Rt 66 in the Mercury when my wife had spring break in April. I would have been in your area, but now that's on hold until sometime this summer.

Route 66 goes through Kirkwood, Missouri. That's about an hour and ten minutes from me. Many of the EFV8 Club regional group members of mine live near there. We often meet in and around Kirkwood. I about 3-4 years ago the V8 club held a central national meet in Springfield, Il and part of the driving tour traversed route 66. If you're not a V8 club member already think about joining.

It's on my list of things to do. The only thing that's kept me from doing it is the lack of an active nearby local chapter. My two closest choices are Rockford and Peoria, both about an hour and a half from me. Looks like there's a great Chicagoland chapter, but that's even further. I did rejoin AACA, which has a very active local chapter.
