KC Area Barners?

I'm going be attending a class at Ft. Leavenworth for the entire month of April. I was wondering if there are any Barners in the KC area or, more particularly, if there are any V-8 or other vintage auto events happening around there in April?

Sorry that would be April 7-8.....also it might be of interest for you to visit Baxter Ford Parts 131 Arkansas St. Lawrence Ks. 66044 a detailed map is on line with other contact info...... time permitting the Speedway museum in Lincoln Ne. would as well be of interest, on line info. for hours etc . this would be a 3 hr. drive or so & a must to check for tour times.

jag,

Do you by chance work for the DOD and are you a contracting officer?

Re: KC Area Barners?

RB-

Thanks for the additional suggestions. I do want to go to the Speedway museum, but I'm saving that for a road trip with a buddy later this summer.

Seth- I do work for DoD (Army), but I'm not a contracting officer. I'm a government contracts lawyer and I advise contracting officers at Rock Island Arsenal.

Oh yes, I remember now from a prior discussion. My wife Nicole is a Contracting Officer at USTRANSCOM, Scott AFB. She spent a few weeks at Rock Island Arsenal just over a year ago. When you mentioned the month long training I was familiar with that as Nicole has done those training classes many times.

That's right! I had the same deja vu feeling that we had discussed the connection before too, but couldn't find it.

I was originally planning to do a little tour of the Illinois portion of Rt 66 in the Mercury when my wife had spring break in April. I would have been in your area, but now that's on hold until sometime this summer.

Route 66 goes through Kirkwood, Missouri. That's about an hour and ten minutes from me. Many of the EFV8 Club regional group members of mine live near there. We often meet in and around Kirkwood. I about 3-4 years ago the V8 club held a central national meet in Springfield, Il and part of the driving tour traversed route 66. If you're not a V8 club member already think about joining.

It's on my list of things to do. The only thing that's kept me from doing it is the lack of an active nearby local chapter. My two closest choices are Rockford and Peoria, both about an hour and a half from me. Looks like there's a great Chicagoland chapter, but that's even further. I did rejoin AACA, which has a very active local chapter.

Everyone might want the check the Shriner Swap Meet date/site. The Lathrop Mo fairgrounds were hit real hard a couple days ago by a tornado. Lots of damage.

Resurrecting this thread from last month. I'm in KC now. Anyone going to the Ararat swap meet on Saturday? I'll be there.

I can't make Friday, as I'm in class at leavenworh all day.

Re: KC Area Barners?

Swap meet was pretty much a bust on Saturday, but a great day to be outdoors. Perhaps all the good stuff was snatched up on Friday? I did pick up a copy of Vern Tardels hot rod book and a repro sign.

Re: KC Area Barners?

Made it Friday only for 2 hr's. or so due to other commitments, did find an original 37 locking hood latch & deck handle both with good cylinders but no keys, also a dash unit of unknown origin the perfect width for 32 ford or other 30's vehicles. This I'm told will be the last meet the Shriners will have at that location as attendance has fallen considerably since moving from the K.C. area proper, a new site in the works around the I-70 corridor.
