Default Re: canister oil filter

For filters for my '51, I usually go to NAPA and buy their house brand, "NAPA Gold". I hear they are made by "Wix" and are of a high quality. Every time I went to NAPA to buy one, they had them in stock.

Speaking of Fram filters, I have read on the H.A.M.B. they have a bad reputation for being cheaply made and are prone to falling apart. This may be on the "spin-on" filters only. Does anyone know if this pertains to the cartridge filters as well? I ask because I bought a couple on closeout from Rock Auto last winter for a a very good price, but am kind of reticent to use them.

I've used fram oil filters in a wide range of vehicles and equipment for years and never a problem with any of them. I've heard some comments as to their being inferior quality but have never seen any evidence of it. Same with Champion spark plugs.
I've got a "Varcon" oil filter in the 52 Merc. Bet nobody remembers them.
