i cant imagine not being able to lift an engine at home! heres what i got, easy, you can do it. that lifting eye is screwed into a piece of heavy wall pipe, that is welded to a piece of 2" angle iron that sits on top of the roof truss. then screwed to the top side of the same heavy pipe is two pieces of electrical conduit in the shape of a V that tie into the two trusses on either side of the one with the lifting eye. its about 10 dollars worth of stuff and an hour to make. strong enough to do a motor and tranny, and has not even cracked the sheet rock so that tells me its strong enough. i have 3 in different locations in the room and really would like some more. you will use it for other things, so not a waste of time. Russ has a good idea too, but you will use this more than once! good luck on your project

So a little update, I ended up buying rope seals and found a NOS 33-38 crank pulley. I really didn’t feel like doing all the extra work to drop the oil pan. I was able to get the rope seal to sit properly in the bottom oil pan well and have been oiling it daily before I put everything back together. We will see if everything works out

Good for you! I never tried it without lowering the pan. Good luck and keep us informed of the result.

Update, so I finally got everything back together without removing the oil pan. Ran it a few times today and so far no leaks. I ended up finding a nos crank pulley with the groves in it and it fits really snug so I’m hoping everything is good to go. And they said you can’t replace the rope seals and pulley without dropping the pan haha.
