A Model A buddy and I were talking about the "B" engine. He thinks it was introduced in the Model A in late 1931.
I think it was not available until the 1932 Model B was introduced along with the V8 option. Who wins the cold one?

He may have seen a car with the optional "police" head, which was labeled 'B'. Since 'B' on the head was already taken by the A police head when the 'B' engine came out, the heads on the 'B' engine were labeled "C". However there was never a Model C engine.

He claims he has a piece of paper showing the "B" engine in a 1931 Model A. Probably just as you described..

I see the major difference being the water kneck on the A head. The bolt patterns look the same can you put a b head on a A engine? or A a high comp head on a b engine.

You can put one on an A engine but you must use the B water pump.

A true "B" engine will have a mounting pad for a fuel pump. The head is not a very good indicator.
