Re: 53 Mercury p/s conversion

The 1953 Ford and 1953 Mercury engine blocks, water pumps, fan, and front pulleys are the same.
I have not seen an aftermarket kit to add a power steering pump to a flathead Ford offered in years,...

Re: Oil transfer - recommendations?

I only know the hard way, using an oil suction gun. Slow and messy.

Re: 47 Flathead Water Pump Swap Tricks?

Silicone hoses come in black along with all sorts of other colors, shapes, and sizes. The import tuner crowd seems to love the things, and use them for turbo setups along with other hose needs. I...

Re: engine question

If your original engine is too far gone to economically get running well you should consider swapping in another flathead Ford V8. Any 39 through 48 engine is basically a drop in, and a 49-53 engine...

Re: 47 Flathead Water Pump Swap Tricks?

I will add one thought to the great advice above: if you are not worried about points judging consider using new silicone hose for the lower hoses. I used to dread working on the lower radiator...

Re: '35 Model 51 Transmission Removal

Wow, that's unusual. The 4 speed transmissions are typically near indestructible. These 4 speed non synchro (crash box) transmissions have little to no value, I have been given and given away several...

Re: Starter jammed in flywheel.

I have experienced the jammed starter several times in vehicles with worth ring gears. The starter jams trying to move the engine forward. Putting the vehicle in third and rocking back and forth...

Re: 12v '38 Ford - confirm polarizing method

Yes, one wire alternator.
The ammeter will read backwards unless the wire running through it is removed and run the other direction. Fords built from 1928 through 1955 were originally positive...

Re: Rebuilding a carb

Make sure your engine is a 47 engine and factory type distributor. If you have a later 8BA type engine swapped in then you must use a matching 8BA type carburetor with the vacuum port in the center...

Re: 49 8BA has no power

I have seen earlier carburetors installed on 8BAs with the vacuum advance tied into manifold vacuum. That results in the opposite of the advance curve you want.
Make sure your vacuum advance is...

Re: '40 rear fender rub one side only

Your tire size indicates a 17 inch wheel. Changing wheel sizes needs to be done carefully to avoid tires hitting things. Your wheels may have the wrong back spacing. I'm not a lot of help when it...

Re: Merc Driving Vid

I have gone through a couple of these carburetors, they are not that hard but look strange. All the normal parts of a carburetor are there, just not in the normal locations. Be gentile threading the...

Re: Anybody ever put a 40-48 V-12 tranny and OD in a stock ford with torque tube?

I have seen pictures of one installed. It involved replacing the whole center of the frame, the overdrive and the middle of a Ford frame try to be in the same place.

Re: Interesting grille guard on ‘48 F-1

Yes, rare factory grill guard. These seem to have been not popular when new. Aftermarket or home made grill guards are more common.

Re: New to the forum, 8RT into passenger car

That's a decent starting point.
By appearances you can use the engine parts from a 52 or 53 USA Ford passenger car to put any 8BA into your car.

Re: Lost a hubcap from my 54 Meteor.

I think the wheels are the same 15" as the regular Ford wheels and any Ford hub cap from the early 50s should work. From the images in this thread it looks like you might be able to take a normal...

Re: Need Help on Identifying This Camshaft

Do you happen to know the total lift (lobe height minus the base circle)? The NOS Ford cams of the 40s I am familiar with have 5T marked on the front.

Re: New to the forum, 8RT into passenger car

Ford changed the nozzle bar design late in the Flathead production during the 8BA era. The nozzle bars are the parts that bridge the barrels and have the fuel discharge. The later design is taller on...

Re: 1934 Australian Ford Body Styles

1930s Ford of Australia body construction practices were probably done both for legislative and for cost reasons. Large stamping dies are expensive to make, and some percentage of vehicle production...

Re: why does my holley 94 have two barrels, two butterflies?

The Stromberg carburetors (48, 97, and 81) and the Chander-Groves / Holley / Ford carburetors are two barrel carburetors without a primary and secondary barrel. As you expect both barrels work at the...

Re: My new project. And introduction.

If you are planning to tear into the engine you probably should identify which variation of Ford flathead V8 is in your car. If your engine is in good shape and runs decently I would leave well...
