Re: 59ab 80 over cam bearing

While I've never had a block with the cam bores like this, I'm sure the day will come . . . if I live long enough! I just picked up a pristine 'keystone' 41/42 Merc/WWII 239 block - STD bores, no...

Re: I need Radiator for my original 32 rod

If you trusted the radiator shop, then was the issue that you didn't like their opinion that it could not be rodded out and repaired?

It is surely possible that the original core is shot - but...

Re: Saginaw 4 speed 10” press. Plate to 48 merc fly wheel

If it is hitting the inner carrier, then cutting that back should work.

Re: Saginaw 4 speed 10” press. Plate to 48 merc fly wheel

I'm not sure what you are speaking about as far as machining goes? From what I see, it is the FACE of the TO bearing that is hitting the fingers PAST the tips - which is incorrect. I don't see any...

Re: Saginaw 4 speed 10” press. Plate to 48 merc fly wheel

When I originally talked to RAM clutches about a custom flywheel and PP for my 32 Cabriolet, the production manager was initially looking at a diaphragm clutch for my application. (Very experienced...

Re: Stomberg 97 rebuild kit?

Or go to Summit Racing - they stock the full line of stuff. We prefer you to use Uncle Max, he is a big supporter of all that we do!

Re: Clean Out Plugs

Once you have them in, then 'stake' the outer edge with a pointed punch - in about 3 or so places around the perimeter. A stock 49-53 oil pump can blow the plugs out if you don't stake them . . . ...

Re: 59 AB drain tube in rear main cap

I do not believe he should have any issues - given the later rope-type seals of the 59AB. Of course, this assumes his rear-main seal is in good shape and doing its job.

Given that he dropped the...

Re: Who rebuilds 1949 Flathead V8 distributors

While you could have it rebuilt and it should work "okay", I would talk to Charlie and have him build an aftermarket one with a decent advance curve in it . . . makes a world of difference in these...

Re: 33-34 Fuel line routing

What the Art Doctor shows is how my 34 was when I originally built it. Very similar routing as a 32 has.

Re: VE Day. May 8, 1945

Thanks a bunch! I was busy working on my new shop building . . . then went out to dinner with my Mom (was a great day!).

Re: Curved vent/oil fill tube for 59AB

In my first 34, I installed a 59AB style engine and just made a longer fill tube as shown by the poster up above. Worked out great!

Re: head stud seal and install

I use a PTFE gasket sealer from ARP. I believe it is important to put the studs in and let them SET for awhile - before running the engine. I do like the ARP studs in that they have a place for a...

Re: how to Remove the Pinion Gear from Housing

I used my hydraulic press. I made a steel tube/sleeve that was just a bit bigger than the bearing OD on the flange side - and long enough to go past the splined end of the pinion.

I then used a...

Re: Help!!! Mallory Zb distributor housing weld repair

The other thing the lathe gives you is the ability to put a dial-indicator and check to see if the end bushing bore is in alignment with the housing OD.

In almost all cases (even with proper...

Re: Help!!! Mallory Zb distributor housing weld repair

If they V-ed out the break area (which I'm sure they did), then you should chuck the housing in a lathe and accurately remove the extra weld material.

Re: Points Gap for Mallory Distributor

Does this distributor have a mechanism to set/limit the mechanical advance? If it was mine (and I didn't have the instructions), I'd take it apart and see how the mechanical advance mechanism works....

Re: Lifter won't stay in adjustment.

If I'm working with older/rebuilt Johnson style lifters . . . or really any of them, I first put one in the engine with the associated cam and a valve setup and determine what the approximate length...
