Touch up paint
 

Any suggestions on where to buy liquid (not spray) touch up paint for a black coupe?

I prefer to buy locally rather than on - line if possible, but I haven't found a parts store that stocks anything close.

Is there a reference number that matches the standard glossy black?

How big of area are you touching up? little scratches you can pretty much buy any automotive "gloss" black and use a pin striping brush to brush it over the scratch. Then take some 2000 grit sand paper and wet sand the black down, build it back up with more paint, and repeat wet sanding until the scratch is completely filled. Then flat sand it one last time, and buff/polish it and you will have a hard time seeing the scratch. If you look close, youll see a ring around the outline of the scratch, but itll look way better than having a scratch in the middle of a fender. If it is a big area that youre actually going to have to spray paint on to fix a damaged area, a gloss black will blend pretty easily. just as long as its in the same ballpark of black you shouldnt have a problem blending out a bigger repair area. Just look around while you're out during the day for english color, ppg, sherwin williams, even orielys has a paint store in some of their stores. Napa sometimes sells paint also. It's just keeping your eye open while youre running around to see where paint stores are at.

Duplicolor has a "paint line" of a few colors but I cannot vouch for the color match of the black.

You can also try black nail polish.

I have found on my car that the Testors brand dries gray compared to the paint already on the fender.

Tom, you did not indicate if the paint is original or a re-paint job.
Original body paint was lacquer and the fenders were enamel. You cannot mix the two.
Test an inconspicuous area of your existing paint with a bit of lacquer thinner to see if the paint disolves. If it does then you want to buy lacquer paint. If it does not then it could be a one stage enamel paint or it might be a modern, base coat/clear coat.

I bought some at NAPA, a small brush and a ball tip marker. Works very well.

Sherman Williams has an auto paint store near me and I brought in a color sample and they can custom mix touchup paint for from $12.00 to $15.00

Interesting thread, i'm in the same color boat... I guess buy a few different samples and see...
