I use PPG Concept DCC 9300 to paint all my black items like fenders, splash aprons, etc. I looks good to me.

The DCC 9300 black is the factory pre-mix. It has a yellow bases and hence a yellow under hue.
A deeper black is the DCC 9700 which the dealer has to mix up. It has a blue base and a deeper black (or so I was told). I bought the 9700 and it does look really deep black, I like how it looks. There are a few different bases of blacks and each has a different look depending on the colors used as the base for the black. The under hue shows up in direct sun light and most people may not be aware of the difference unless they see the paints side by side in the right light. Oh, I am in no way saying the 9700 is better as I do not really know just wanted to let you know it exists. It was recommended by someone who has done a lot of painting so I went with it. I do know polished up and in the sun it is a real rich deep black with a lot of depth. I am sure you could be just as happy with the 9300 as the DCC paint goes on nice (when I get the gun right) and is not so bad to color sand and polish (got to fix the screw ups). |

Actually, 9300 has Strong White and Blue in it. 9700 has the Yellow which is hotter yet has a darker look. It looks the best under artificial lighting. 9000 is the blackest but is the straight toner so it needs something added to protect from UV. We use our own formula/mix with 9000. My suggestion is use what looks most pleasing to your eye. Several years ago when we were hosting the Fordbarn Workshops here, we put two different bodies (one with 9700 & one with 9300) and let the attendees vote on which one they liked best.

Humm, I tend to trust Brent as he is in the business. I am a curious sort so I poked around.
But I did a basic google search and turned up this: the WA8555 is PPG# 9835 9300 Code Description Abs. Cum. Grams Parts DMD1683 BLACK 486.2 486.2 911.2 100.00 9700 Code Description Abs. Cum. There was talk of a DBC 9700 with a yellow base which I think is BC/CC. As I recall, when I got my 9700 the guy found the BC/CC formula first and almost made the wrong mix. Anyway, I think it safe to say you are going to get a nice looking black with either DCC 9300/9700. |

Its amazing how many shades and different colors there are ...and to some people that don't paint or see a lot of it don't realize some of the subtle differences ....I had people tell me well just paint it blue or red or white and there are hundreds of shades let alone the difference in hues
