Need Both Rear Quarter Panels for '23 Touring Car
I need both left and right side rear quarter panels for an early (low hood) 1923 Touring Car. I believe the part numbers (From McCalley Parts List) are 8156B and 8157B.
I don't believe anyone is stamping these body parts new. Tom Howe Flying W Ranch Hotchkiss, Colorado [email protected] |

Re: Need Both Rear Quarter Panels for '23 Touring Car
I looked at a Howell's sheetmetal catalog and they list the side panel for the touring from the rear door forward, but the illustration shows the entire side. Very confusing. I assume you have contacted Howell's about this? Basically, if Howell's doesn't make it, then nobody does. A word about Howell's: if they don't have the part in stock, it could take forever for them to make it. Their customer service department is nonexistent. I ordered a rear seat frame for a '15 touring on Jan.4, 2013, and it had not arrived by mid Feb, so I had to cancel and just patch up my old one. Repeated phone calls don't work. On the other hand, their quality is very good. The rear panel I did receive from Howell's fit perfectly.

Re: Need Both Rear Quarter Panels for '23 Touring Car
Someone would know better than me, but aren't the rear panels are the same up through the 1925 models? I know the cowl panels changed in 1923, but didn't think that the rear panels did.

Re: Need Both Rear Quarter Panels for '23 Touring Car
Thanks guys - no I have not contacted Howells, but I will.
And yes - I believe the three piece rear Touring Car body panels are the same (or very near the same) from 1922 through 1925. But I'm a real neophyte at this game - the '23 I'm restoring (or attempting to restore) is my first Model T project and I don't have other cars in the area to examine. I'm considering traveling to Chickasha, OK later this month if I cannot find these panels prior. That's a lot of expense that could be directed towards shipping costs instead. These are the last two body parts I need to complete the project! Can anyone give me a rough probability of finding these kinds of body panels at Chickasha?? I'm really hoping there's a set of these around somewhere. I'd rather not have to drive the 800 miles to Chickasha only to find none there either... Boy - Am I having fun yet or what?? |

I also have a 23 low radiator touring. My panels were really badly rust perforated. I cleaned them up as best I could and used fiberglass cloth and resin on both sides, ground smooth, skimmed with bondo. Has done well for 30 years now.

Did a 23 roadster body several years ago, Used por15 on the inside with fiberglass mat, Worked perfect, The quarters were like swiss cheese, was solid when I finished then used tiger hair on outside, really turned out well.

Wow! good idea(s) guys - I may consider the fiberglass solution.
Jackdaron - two bad I didn't know about your back seat section a couple years ago. I'm down to the point where I only need the two rear quarter panels now. And... Indy and western Colorado are a long ways apart....... |

Re: Need Both Rear Quarter Panels for '23 Touring Car
Thanks to all for the help.
Just when I thought I was in big trouble finding these, I located them just down the road from me at Kyle Augustine's in Olathe, Colorado. He has a lot of parts so if you have trouble locating something you can try him at www.kylesmodelt.com. Tom Howe - Flying W Ranch - Hotchkiss, Colorado |
